Concept

Conception by Alain Carle, Architect

This house is imbued with rusticity. Its architecture is more rustic than modernist, closer to the earth than to the sky. The exterior volumetry is abstract and intriguing. Two volumes with irregular angles are anchored to retaining walls retaining the sloping ground. The black pine walls contribute to the strangeness of this form, which cuts through the landscape without imposing itself on it. It is registered in the place.

Its internal organization extends this relationship to the topography, like an interior landscape: hills, slate plateaus, black boulders…. The interior spaces are divided into half-levels from the street access level. The reception floor extends to form one of the kitchen counters. Further on, wide steps introduce the living and dining areas, while offering themselves as informal seating benches, facing the landscape that opens up in front of you: the Charlevoix region, and the magnificent Saint-Laurent.
